Hunter Smothers

This will be Coach Smothers’ eighth year as the pitching coach at Bob Jones High School. Smothers was instrumental to the Patriots’ 2019 State Runner-Up finish and 2018 run to the Final Four.  

Smothers was also the Head Baseball Coach at Austin High School in 2024 for one season.

Prior to coming to Bob Jones he was the Pitching Coach at Dothan High School for three seasons. In 2015 he helped to lead the Tigers to their winningest season in school history with 25 wins. The 2015 team won the Area 3 Championship and advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs for the first time since 2002. The Tigers also won 20 games for the 1st time since 1999 and hosted a playoff game for the first time since 2002. The 2016 team made a 1st round playoff appearance, which was the the first time that DHS had made back-to-back playoff appearances since 2001-2002. In his three years at DHS, he helped three pitchers sign college scholarships. Also during his time in Dothan, Smothers served as a pitching instructor at Kirkland Baseball Performance, and the pitching coach for Post 12 Baseball for the 2017 season.

Coach Smothers is originally from Eldridge, AL where he attended Carbon Hill High School. After high school he attended Bevill State Community College in Fayette, AL where he was a pitcher for the baseball team, and then transferred to Athens State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in history education. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Hannah, and his son Hanley.
