Bill McIlwain

Coaching Background:
Coach McIlwain has been coaching for 17 years, with six years at Bob Jones High School. His career began at Clinton, MS,  High School in 2008 as a cross country coach. He also served as Head Junior High Girls Coach at Clinton Junior High (2009–2016) and Distance Track Coach at Clinton High School (2017–2019). Since 2019, he has led the Bob Jones Cross Country program and coached distance runners for both indoor and outdoor track.

    • B.S., Mississippi College, Clinton, MS (1993)

    • NFHS Certified Cross Country and Track Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"Movement is Life!"
Coach McIlwain’s mission is to develop athletes who strive for excellence in running and in life. His approach focuses on fostering discipline, resilience, and teamwork through a process-driven training method, preparing athletes for both competition and personal growth.

Career Highlights:

    • Seven marathons completed in five years

    • Guided the Bob Jones girls cross country team to the 2023 state meet—their first appearance in 11 years

Favorite Coaching Moment:
Seeing the girls team qualify for the state championship in 2023 after more than a decade away from the competition was a proud milestone for both the athletes and the program.

Personal Interests:
Running, camping, traveling, and a past career in radio and television during the late 1980s to mid-1990s.
